Helpful Website
A website that I recommend using at home is Starfall. This is a very helpful website for children who are learning to read. It is very interactive and fun for children to explore independently. The activities are user-friendly and help to support kindergarten objectives.
Letter Identification
Letter Identification is such an important skill in Kindergarten. More important than being able to sing the "ABC Song", children need to be able to identify uppercase and lowercase letters. Use this worksheet to practice letter identification with your child at home. If you and your child want a challenge, you can also practice the sounds that go along with each letter. You can find the worksheet at my website under helpful resources.
Shapes in the Real World
We are working on identifying shapes. In order to help understand the shapes, it is important to be able to identify real-world examples of the shapes we are studying. I have created a set of photos including pictures of circles, squares, and rectangles. Scroll through the photos with your child and have them identify the name of each shape in the picture. To get to the photos click here.
Explanation of Blog
So often the parents of my students ask how they can help their child at home with different tasks that we are learning in kindergarten. I decided that the best way for me to address the many needs of my students would be to compile a variety of resources for parents to access from home. Each week I will update with one or two posts including activities that parents can do at home with their child to help enhance the work we do in the classroom. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
